Red Bean Dumplings

In the Asian society, a bowl of red bean dumplings has sweetly romantic love in meaning. When it comes to the traditional lover’s festival or lunar new year, people may have this dessert at home. The cooking direction is very straight-forward and simple in the vegan recipe. You may try it over the weekend.

Red Bean Dumplings

Ingredients (serves 1-2 people)

  • Red bean – around 100 g
  • Sugar – 8 teaspoons
  • Glutinous rice flour – 100 g
  • Water – 500 ml
  • Water – for mixing glutinous rice flour 
  • Cane sugar – 1 tablespoon

Direction

  • Immerse the red beans for 1 hour in a bowl
  • Cook the red beans in a stockpot for 2 hours with medium fire level after the water is boiled
  • Mix glutinous rice flour with water into a dough by adding water gradually.  The dough cannot be too wet.
  • Divide the dough into 10 portions. Then knead the portion into a ball. Use thumb to press a little in the middle. Fill the red bean filling into it. Afterwards, knead it into a ball again. 
  • Heat some water in a stockpot. After the water is boiled, put the dumplings into the stockpot. Besides, some cane sugar can also be put into the water. It is done once the dumplings are floated. Then the bowl of red bean dumplings is ready.
